Box of
Balloons
Box of Balloons is a non-profit that puts together birthday boxes that include everything a parent would need to throw their child a birthday party. They provide birthday party experiences to kids who would not have been able to have a party due to financial reasons, or otherwise. I got the honor of volunteering with them in a 24 hour event hosted by the American Advertising Federation ND. I worked in a team of two to help this non-profit accomplish their goals.

Design Objectives
The primary task my partner and I were given was to create a six social media campaign that would promote the non-profit leading up to Giving Hearts Day. They also asked us to design graphics for a promotional video. If we had any extra time, we were tasked with looking at a few of their programs, and building a file that could be sent off to be 3D printed.
-
Create a social media campaign composed of 6 posts to be posted over 6 weeks, to boost donations on Giving Hearts Day
-
Brand two of their programs (Build a Box and Corporate Volunteering)
-
Put together an .STL file for a 3D model of their logo character
-
Use current brand assets to create designs
Project Goals
Sketches

The theme for the campaign was ‘Be a Birthday Hero’. So my partner and I came up with the idea of creating a superhero comic strip. The character from the company’s logo was turned into a superhero, delivering birthday boxes to families in need. I created all of the visuals and designed the layout, while my partner did the copywriting and campaign plan. The comic strip details the process of how the non-profit builds and delivers boxes to parents, with a fun superhero twist to engage viewers.
Final Designs

Logo Variations
Box of Balloons has two programs within the organization where people can volunteer their time: Build A Box and Corporate Volunteering. I created variations of the main logo character to create icons for the specific programs. These can be used to associate certain marketing elements to these programs.

3D Modeling
I was able to design a 3D model of their logo character using Adobe Illustrator and Tinkercad, and export an .STL file that can be sent off the print. These can be given away as gifts for donations/volunteering, or merch for employees.

Takeaways from this project:
It was an incredible experience working with my partner, Jason on this project. We were able to create more design elements for the non-profit than I thought would be possible given the time constraint, so I’m glad we were able to help Box of Balloons so much! It was awesome getting to know some of the non-profits from my area, and using my design skills to help them better achieve their goals. It was also a great experience working in a team. Jason specialized in copywriting, which paired great with my visual design experience.
Learning about other specialties such as copywriting
Being in a collaborative, creative space and the amazing work that can come from it
Finding a new non-profit to support
I learned more about my artistic process, as I had to do it in a very condensed time frame
